Title of Event: Disability and Medical Conditions in Sex Therapy
 
Description of Event:
Sex can pose an additional challenge to those who are differently-abled or who are partnered with those who are differently-abled. This course will examine some of the ways to additional challenges these clients experience and helps therapists feel comfortable navigating sexual difficulties with those who may have limitations in ability or who are experiencing medical conditions. 
 
Learning Objectives:
1) Participants will be able to describe 3 psychological, emotional, or inter-personal challenges of clients who are differently-abled or experiencing a medical condition or who are partnered with someone who is differently-abled or experiencing a medical condition. 
2) Participants will be able to demonstrate 3 clinical/therapeutic interventions to help those experiencing medical conditions or disabilities or those who are partnered with someone who is experiencing medical conditions or disabilities to increase satisfaction with their sexual life.

Sex Therapy (ST) Training:
ST1. Theory and methods of sex-related psychotherapy, including several different models.
ST2. Techniques of sex-related assessment and diagnosis of the Psychosexual Disorders described in the current edition of the DSM.
ST3. Theory and methods of approach to intervention in relationship systems experiencing sex and intimacy problems.
ST4. Theory and method of approach to medical intervention in the evaluation and treatment of psychosexual disorders.
ST5. Principles of consultation, collaboration and referral.
ST6. Ethical decision-making and best practice.
ST7. Practicum Experience: Exposure to treatment of clinical sex therapy cases through direct observation, demonstration, case review or role-playing. eLearning cannot be applied. Applicants must be very clear in their documentation as to how they gained exposure to sex therapy cases.
