A Return to Our Roots: Decolonizing the Arab Identity

Presented by Sandra Khalil, CST

Rich and ancient traditions have been born out of what we know as the Middle East. They stand at the root of the cultural history of Arab American, Middle Eastern, and North African folks. Colonization impacted AMENA folks’ relationship with these values, their identity, and ultimately their bodies. In this presentation, we will explore the colonial narratives that were the foundation of colonizing the MENA region and the multi-generational impact this has had on AMENA folks, as it pertains to their sexual identities.
