Treating Sexual Aversion

Title of Event: Treating Sexual Aversion

Description of Event:
Sexual aversion is not a diagnosis by the DSM-5, although identifying this label and knowing how to treat it is a huge relief to the many patients that seek treatment for this problem.  Although it is technically captured under the umbrella of “low desire”, it has more similar characteristics of an anxiety disorder or of a specific phobia than of low desire.  While skills to deal with low desire, anxiety, and phobias help in treating this condition, this course will present unique strategies to specifically treat this type of anxiety/phobia.  The course will identify what sexual aversion looks like, will introduce you to how to create a multi-dimensional assessment, and will introduce you to specific treatment approaches and treatment plans to target this type of disorder.

Learning Objectives:
1.     Participants will be able to describe what a sexual aversion looks like and how it is different than Female Sexual Interest/Arousal Disorder.
2.     Participants will be able to demonstrate at least 3 intervention techniques to treat sexual aversion in individual or couples therapy.
