Still Here, Still Queer, Still Sexy AF
Title of Event: Still Here, Still Queer, Still Sexy AF
Description of Event: Did you love Grace and Frankie? Do you wish you felt more confident helping your older gender and sexual minorities clients talk about their needs related to sexual wellness? Maybe you’re finding it hard to apply what you learned in your lifespan class when it comes to working with older adults. As the Baby Boomer population ages, the need for mental health professionals who can hold open and affirming conversations about sex and intimacy with older clients is more critical than ever (Sinković & Towler, 2019). This lively and engaging webinar will equip you with strategies to incorporate into your counseling practice that support older gender and sexual minorities clients in experiencing liberated, joyful sexuality free from shame and oppression (Tan & Anderson, 2024). We’ll dive deep into the ecological factors that influence sexual wellness and help-seeking behaviors for queer older adults and uproot ageism, heterosexism, and cisgenderism in your clinical work (Chatters et al., 2018).
You’ll leave with practical tools to integrate sex-positive principles into your counseling approach, helping you feel confident in initiating conversations about sexual health and intimacy with older clients. Through a mix of real-world case studies and interactive discussions, we’ll uncover the research showing how older adults can experience satisfying and meaningful sexual lives (Towler et al., 2021). We’ll challenge outdated assumptions that label older adults as nonsexual or asexual, empowering you to decolonize your practice and foster affirming clinical spaces (Amin, 2016). Join us to build your skills and better support the vibrant and diverse older gender and sexual minorities community as they embrace their sexuality at every age.
