One of the most common problems presented in couple and sex therapy is differences in sexual desire. For some couples this difference causes occasional mild or moderate tension, yet in others it becomes a source of major dissatisfaction, unhappiness, resentment and even threats to the future of the relationship. And if sexuality or sexual need is rooted in biology, as some people believe, what can be done about this common area of distress? In this presentation, Dr. Marsh will (1) explore the nature of desire from different viewpoints, (2) discuss aspects of the Intersystem Approach which often affect sexual desire, (3) present relevant focal points for couple assessment and (4) suggest various treatment strategies for couples in distress over desire differences. The workshop will include experiential elements so participants can discuss their viewpoints and case dilemmas in small groups. Dr. Marsh will present illustrative cases of desire discrepancy and share treatment strategies which may be helpful. There will be time allotted for Q & A as well. Less...
