Polyaffectionate: Navigating Platonic Inclusive Non-Monogamy

Title of Event: Polyaffectionate: Navigating Platonic Inclusive Non-Monogamy

Description of Event:

Polyamory and non-monogamy challenge the idea that one romantic or sexual relationship should meet all our needs. But even these expanded frameworks often continue to center romance and sex, leaving platonic relationships underdefined, undervalued, or entirely outside the conversation.

What happens when we apply non-monogamy not just to romantic and sexual relationships, but to the full range of meaningful connections in our lives?

This workshop introduces polyaffectionate as a framework for recognizing and intentionally engaging with all significant relationships, whatever form they take. Drawing from Asexual and Aromantic frameworks, non-monogamy discourse, models of friendship, and Disability and Transformative Justice insights on care, participants will explore how connection, support, and intimacy can exist beyond both traditional relationship hierarchy and romance-centered non-monogamy.

Together, we will examine how social scripts shape our understanding of friendship, partnership, and commitment, and what becomes possible when we step outside of them.
