Perimenopause, Menopause, and Pleasure

Title of Event: Perimenopause, Menopause, and Pleasure

Description of Event:
Perimenopause and menopause affect everyone with ovaries and come with physical and emotional changes that often many people experience without much knowledge or support. Loved ones may not understand or downplay the intensity of our experiences. Misogyny in the medical field informs how difficult it can be to seek help; health care providers often disregard the impact on quality of life, repeat outdated research, or offer one-size-fits-all (if any) solutions.

Bodies change in a myriad of ways, including irregular periods, hot flashes, libido shifts, mood swings, insomnia, vaginal dryness, pain with penetration, and orgasm changes. These changes affect a person’s self-image, libido, desire, intimacy, and relationships. We’ll discuss strategies for your clients, including: confronting the grief that can come with a changing body and sex life; self-advocacy in health care settings; how to feel supported and validated in their experiences; and tools for reclaiming and boosting sexual desire and intimacy.
