Like a Pro: The Wheel of Consent for Professionals, BIPOC-centric edition

Title of Event: Like a Pro: The Wheel of Consent for Professionals, BIPOC-centric edition

Description of Event:

A five-day professional training in Dr. Betty Martin's Wheel of Consent® framework, offered in an affinity space for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color and facilitated by an all-BIPOC teaching team. This is not a standard training with a diversity module added on — the BIPOC-centric lens is the container itself, providing space for insights, impacts and lived experiences to emerge. It is a space where practitioners can learn the work without having to explain the backstory, translate their experience, or hold space for others before tending to themselves.

The Wheel of Consent® asks: Who is this for? Whose desires and limits are being centered? For communities whose labor, bodies, and care have so often been extracted without genuine agreement, these questions carry particular weight. This training grounds the framework not only as a professional tool but as a practice of decolonization and collective care.

Designed for professionals who work with the intimacies of being human — therapists, counselors, sex educators, bodyworkers, somatic practitioners, coaches, birth workers, physicians, organizers, and others working with consent, trauma, boundaries, touch, and relational wellbeing.

Participants will build skills in distinguishing genuine consent from compliance, somatic assessment, defining professional limits without apology, and creating containers where real work can happen — grounded in the principles of slowing down, noticing, and accessing genuine choice.
