Psychotherapy and couples counseling: What’s similar, what’s different, and how to do each better.
Title of Event: Psychotherapy and couples counseling: What’s similar, what’s different, and how to do each better.
Description of Event:
From start to finish, how are couples counseling and individual therapy different, and how are they similar?
In this webinar, we’ll look at specific dimensions of therapy–its goals; its structure; the role of the therapist, and self-disclosure; holding clients’ pain & conveying empathy; working with people we don’t like, and more. If therapy isn’t just about giving advice (or “just listening”), what exactly do we have to offer?
We’ll keep focusing on the question we all have: How do we make therapy more effective? And how do we make it more satisfying for ourselves?
Topics include:
* The intake process & therapeutic goals
* Differential diagnosis & power dynamics
* Homework, note-taking, & other practitioners
* Cultural issues & ethics
* Transference & countertransference
* Summary: What exactly do you have to offer?
