Access to contraceptive methods and reproductive health care is in serious jeopardy across the United States. This is occurring at the same time that fewer women and couples of reproductive ages are choosing to have children which has increased the demand for methods that effectively prevent pregnancy. Additionally, some hormonal contraceptives are prescribed for medical conditions with a secondary effect of pregnancy prevention. The possible sexual side-effects of these methods can be significant and are often over-looked or misunderstood by behavioral health providers as well as patients. This can result in diagnostic errors attributing sexual problems to relational conflicts instead of a possible or probable side-effect of a birth control method.
This webinar will provide attendees with basic information on both hormonal and non-hormonal contraceptive options - how they work to prevent pregnancy and their potential impact on sexual interest and health.

At the end of this seminar participants will be able to:
-Explain the impact of hormonal birth control on the menstrual cycle.
-Describe the concept of contraceptive conflict and its impact on libido.
- Inform their patients/themselves about sterilization as an option for both men and women who definitively decline pregnancy.
- Describe the fertility awareness method and its effectiveness for pregnancy prevention.
- Name the types of hormonal birth control methods currently available in the US.
-Describe the term LARC as it refers to contraceptive methods.
