Clinical Perspectives on Kink A 5-Session Microcredential Course

Title of Event: Clinical Perspectives on Kink: A 5-Session Microcredential Course

Description of Event:

This 15-hour comprehensive course provides an essential reorientation for clinicians, educators, and care providers working with individuals who identify with or practice kink. Kink is a broad umbrella term encompassing a diverse range of consensual sexual interests, fantasies, and relational dynamics, such as BDSM, fetishism, and roleplay, that fall outside culturally normative sexual practices. This course challenges the historical pathologization of these behaviors by exploring the cultural narratives and professional training biases that often shape clinical judgment. Participants will explore the evolution of diagnostic frameworks, to build a foundation of ethical, curiosity-based practice that treats kink as a legitimate and healthy aspect of human identity.

This course equips professionals with the framework necessary to move beyond a “one-size-fits-all” approach to sexual health, gaining the skills to support stronger therapeutic relationships through analysis of diagnostic systems, biopsychosocial systems, and the nervous system. By the conclusion of the 15 hours, providers will be better prepared to navigate complex relational dynamics, assess safety within a kink context, and advocate for the wellbeing of kink-identified individuals with clinical accuracy and ethical integrity.
