Description of Event:

Currently, many are experiencing a crisis of faith, not only in institutions such as universities and western medicine, but also an individual’s relationships with their own cultural and spiritual practices. In decoupling from western and colonial ways of approaching healing, this talk encourages healing professionals to dive deeper into the true meaning of ritual and sacred medicines. In order to build upon our collaborative wisdom, the structure spirituality provides encourages us to reprioritize indigenous practices, such as the Seven Grandfather Teachings. Much like the leaves of sage our lives are finite; once they are burned, they cannot return. Though this act might seem final, in its essence it is transformative. That transformation is a reminder of just how sacred our time is together, as is the work we seek to accomplish. There is a need for a new culture and style of integration between spiritual practice and western medicine that recognizes that indigenous teachings are not of the past, they are of the present, and are integral to how we approach our future.
