Migration, Diaspora and Sexuality

Title: Migration, Diaspora and Sexuality

In this course, we will explore the complex intersections between migration and sexuality. Our work together will focus on understanding how migration shapes and transforms sexual identities, practices, and experiences, and how these impacts vary depending on the social, cultural, political, and personal dynamics encountered throughout an individual’s migratory journey. We will also examine key considerations for working with diverse groups across the diaspora, paying particular attention to issues of inclusion, identity, trauma, belonging, and power. These discussions will be grounded in the framework of sexual citizenship, allowing us to critically reflect on rights, agency, visibility, and the ways migrants navigate sexual autonomy in new or shifting contexts.

Learning Objectives:
Explore views on Migration, Diaspora and how this impacts sexuality.
Explore how understanding these concepts can assist in our sexuality work.
Apply learned skills in course to sex therapy cases.
