Sex Toys

Title of Event: Sex Toys

Description of Event: The earliest hypothesized sex toy was found in Germany in 2005. Made of polished stone, the item (which is debated to be a toy, a tool, or an idol sculpture) is approximately 28,000 years old. Needless to say, sex toy tech has advanced significantly since the paleolithic era. This course will explore the foundational knowledge that sex therapists need in order to talk with clients about body-safe materials and use of toys. We will explore beyond the basics as we discuss how the rise of teledildonics, including interactions with AI chatbots, brings in new concerns around consent and privacy for users. Wrapped in every conversation will be knowledge and skills around adaptive and lifelong sexual practices. We will explore how conversations in aging, disability, and the LGBTQ+ communities can help foster more creative and embodied sexual play through the use of sex toys, gear, and tech.
