I Think I Might Be Autistic, Now What?

Title of Event: I Think I Might Be Autistic, Now What?

Description of Event:
Explore and understand your needs and experiences as an adult with autism in a supportive group environment with a neurodiversity coach.

Do you think you or someone you care about is autistic? Whether you have a formal diagnosis or simply suspect you might be based on your own experience, it can be hard to learn about autism. There’s social stigma, misinformation, exploitative groups, and outdated negative views within the medical community. It’s often discouraging how deeply society casts neurodivergence and autism in a negative light. This can make it hard to understand, explore, and see anything good about yourself in this.

But it doesn’t have to be so scary.

In this workshop with autism/neurodivergence coach Brianna Deale, you’ll take the scenic route through an overview of autistic life and common experiences. Together, we’ll explore:

- How to understand the sensory needs, special interests, and nonverbal communication needs related to autism
- How to acknowledge and communicate your unique needs, personally or professionally
- How to understand what meltdowns are, where they come from, and and how to get help around them
- How to embrace and even celebrate traits like being direct and infodumping on your friends and loved ones

We will also take a look at the coincidence of diverse gender and sexual identities with autism, and at the overlap between autism and ADHD. There will be plenty of time at the end of the presentation for Q&A and discussion.

This workshop is primarily aimed at adults who are discovering they may be autistic. However, it’s also helpful for allistic partners, family members, or colleagues of autistic people as well as clinicians seeking more training and lived experiences around autism to better serve their clients. We ask that if you are not autistic, you remain mindful that this is a space that centers the voices and experiences of autistic attendees.

If you’re trying to manage feelings and fears around the idea of being autistic, you don’t have to do it alone! Join us to learn about a wide range of autistic experiences, including the positive aspects of autism. Let’s celebrate the differences in neurodivergent experiences as you learn to better understand yourself and your needs without judgment.
