Microaggressions in “Safe” Spaces
Title of Event: Microaggressions in “Safe” Spaces
Description of Event:
It should be expected and obvious that healing/helping spaces are safe, and that practitioners are aware of intersectionality- however, that is often NOT the reality.
As professionals, we can cause deep harm to clients through microaggressions. Participants will learn about ethnocultural countertransference, which often leads to microaggressions towards clients. Ethnocultural countertransference refers to a variety of cultural factors and oppressed identities such as race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, disabilities, etc., and how they impact practitioner perspectives and behaviors towards clients. Through role plays and discussion, we will process and identify ways to better support our BIPOC clients.
Learning Objectives:
1. Learners will be able to state types of ethnocultural countertransference.
2. Learners will be able to identify common therapist microagressions.
3. Learners will be able to utilize 2 tools they can use in therapy sessions with clients.
This training is LIVE online, includes practice and group discussion, and will NOT be recorded.
