Values of AASECT Membership

AASECT Membership connects you to the largest community of your peers through the promotion of sexual health by the development and advancement of the fields of sexual therapy, counseling, and education. AASECT has become a global forum for the exchange of ideas and the leading resource for information in the field of human sexuality, addressing unique issues, challenges, trends and regulations. As a member, your involvement will not only enrich your career but also help to shape the future of AASECT and the sexuality profession.

Membership Types

Professional Members are those individuals whose academic and/or professional credentials make them eligible to pursue AASECT certification in accordance with the procedures and criteria adopted by the Board of Directors. Professional Members in good standing are eligible to vote in elections and on other matters properly placed before the membership for a vote, and to serve on most committees and other functional bodies. 

Early Career Professional Members are those individuals whose academic and/or professional credentials make them eligible to pursue AASECT certification in accordance with the procedures and criteria adopted by the Board of Directors. Early Career Professional Membership is limited to a maximum of three (3) years post-graduation from full time student status in undergraduate or graduate training at a recognized and accredited educational institution. Early Career Professional Members in good standing are eligible to vote in elections and on other matters properly placed before the membership for a vote, and to serve on most committees and other functional bodies. Please note: Early Career Professional Members must upgrade to Professional Membership upon submission of any AASECT Certification Application. AASECT reserves the right to and will randomly audit individuals registering for Early Career Professional Member status to verify eligibility. Individuals not meeting the criteria for Early Career Professional Membership status will either need to change membership types as appropriate and pay the difference in fees or have their membership with AASECT ended.

Supporting Members are those individuals who support AASECT’s mission but are not eligible to pursue AASECT certification. Supporting Members in good standing are eligible to serve on most Committees and other functional bodies, and to vote within these structures. Supporting Members are entitled to vote for the Vice President of Membership and for Regional Representatives to the Membership Services Steering Committee, but not on any other elected positions, or on ratifications of the Bylaws. Supporting Members shall not be eligible to hold positions as Officers, as Directors, or as Chairs of Committees, nor vote in general elections.

Student Members are those individuals who are currently enrolled full-time in undergraduate or graduate training at a recognized and accredited educational institution. Student Members in good standing are eligible to serve on most Committees and other functional bodies, and to vote within these structures. Student Members are entitled to vote for the Vice President of Membership and Regional Representatives to the Membership Services Committee. Student Members shall not be eligible to hold positions as Officers, as Directors, or as Chairs of Committees, nor vote in general elections. AASECT reserves the right to and will randomly audit individuals registering for Student Member status to verify eligibility. Individuals not meeting the criteria for student status will either need to change membership types as appropriate and pay the difference in fees or have their membership with AASECT ended.

Retired Members are those members of AASECT who, having achieved Professional Membership status, elect to apply for reduced dues under provisions determined by the Board of Directors.  At present, to become Retired Member, a Member must be over 60 years of age, and be employed in the field half time or less to apply for this status. Supporting documentation may be required and retired membership status requests must be approved by the Executive Director. Please email info@aasect.org with your request.

Membership Dues

Annual payment must be in U.S. funds drawn on a U.S. affiliated bank. Dues for members outside North America may be adjusted in accordance with economy rankings by the World Bank.  Please contact the AASECT office for information on reduced rates under these circumstances.

While working toward AASECT certification and prior to beginning Supervision, AASECT membership must be maintained at all times. After certification, AASECT membership must always be maintained to continue certification.

Membership Types

Professional Members - $220 / annually

Our most popular type of membership, Professional Members and eligible to pursue AASECT certification in accordance with the procedures and criteria adopted by the Board of Directors. Professional Members in good standing are eligible to serve on most committees and other functional bodies, vote in elections, and vote on other matters brought to the Board.

Early Career Professional Members - $160 / annually

For recent graduates, our Early Career Professional Membership is for those who were full time students within the past 3 years in undergraduate or graduate training at a recognized and accredited institution. Early Career Professionals are eligible to pursue AASECT certification in accordance with the procedures and criteria adopted by the Board of Directors. Early Career Professionals are required to upgrade to Professional Membership upon submission of an AASECT Certification Application.

AASECT reserves the right to and will randomly audit individuals registering for Early Career Professional Member status to verify eligibility.
