Title of Event: Everyday Transformative Justice
 
Description of Event:
Gaya (they/them) and Mara (they/them) from Spring Up unpack how transformative justice responds to the violence of binary logics under white supremacy by offering us visions for creative, culturally rooted strategies to respond to harm.
 
The flow:
*Binaries and how White Supremacy is based on binary logics
*What is Transformative Justice + Unpack three core types of transformative justice including transformative organizing, liberatory visioning and community accountability
*Understand how communities of practice rooted in TJ have historically come out of anti-violence work around gender based violence, intimate partner violence and family violence
*Diving into our unique roots in community based harm responses
*Explore skills to practice TJ with integrity by increasing choice, centering de-escalation and Indigenous led responses to harm
*Apply real world scenario practice of implementing TJ responses to harm
 
Learning Objectives:
1. Apply an analysis of how binary logics form the roots of violence in many situations of violence and harm
2. Assess your own backgrounds and experiences in abolitionist/community-based responses to harm and violence to choose what to draw on in their practice
3. Implement skills of de-escalation and designing consequences as responses to harm
4. Learn examples from a cooperative perspective on implementing Transformative Justice practices into a business
5. Define the nuances of what is and is not possible within adapting Transformative Justice as an institution
