Ethics of Sex Therapy with Religious Clients

Title of Event: Ethics of Sex Therapy with Religious Clients

Description of Event:
About 70-80% of the American population identifies as religious and adhering to a faith. Practicing any type of therapy requires self-awareness about how our own religious and cultural beliefs impact the therapy room. Additionally, the client’s religious and cultural beliefs impact the treatment of therapy as well.  This course will explore some of the ethical considerations when working with religious clients including issues of self-disclosure, joining and relating, dual relationships, countertransference and transference, and more.

Learning Objectives:
1.     Participants will be able to describe ethical dilemmas that may arise when performing sex therapy with religious clients.
2.     Participants will be able to describe at least three ethical ways to perform culturally-sensitive sex therapy.
