The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports in June the first cases of illness now known as AIDS. In July, an article in the New York Times is headlined, “Rare Cancer Seen in 41 Homosexuals.” In 1982 the Gay Men’s Health Crisis is established to educate doctors, hospitals, and clinics across the country. It also creates a volunteer buddy program to assist people with AIDS with their day-to-day.
