I believe relationships are central to life. Whether we speak of relationship with God, self, or others, we are designed for relationship. When relationships are off balance, spiritual, mental, physical, and sexual health are affected. I believe growth and positive change occurs best in a genuine, nonjudgmental, empathetic atmosphere and that people are the experts of themselves and have the potential to grow and change. I believe sexuality is a major part of human development and that every human being should have the freedom and opportunity to pursue healthy sexual development and healing, regardless of their diversity (i.e. age, ethnicity, circumstance, family dynamic, beliefs, gender identity, sexual orientation, lifestyles, disability, etc.). I believe the pursuit of sexual health and healing should include the opportunity for individual and partnered pleasure within a safe environment that involves mutual consent and that is “free of coercion, discrimination and violence.” (World Health Definition of Sexual Health, WHO, 2006a).
