Philosophy:
Sexuality can be affected by upbringing, experiences, attitudes, cultural values, lifestyles, psychological well-being, and overall health. Additionally, sexuality is intricately woven with relationship issues. Guided by these ideas, I focus on understanding the complex nature of sexual difficulties and how they influence, and are influenced by, relationships. I believe that having a developed self includes the ability to express sexuality. My style is interactive and supportive and I make every effort to provide a safe and comfortable environment.
Other Information:
With over 30 years of experience in mental health, I first established my practice in Richmond in 1995 to treat general psychological, emotional, and relationship issues. Over the course of my work, I realized that some clients needed to focus more specificaly on the sexual dimension of their lives. After additional education and training, I obtained AASECT certification. As one of the most experienced sex therapists in the Richmond area, I treat sexual difficulties with clients of all orientations. Currently, I am also an Associate Clinical Professor at the Medical College of Virginia and on the faculty of a post graduate training program in the Washington, D.C. area. Prior to becoming a psychologist, I worked as a nurse. I believe that my diverse background enriches the care that I provide.
