Mrs. Sughrue was Director of Inservice Education at St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Charleston, SC before joining her late husband, John Sughrue, Jr., MD in his medical practice in Charleston. The Sughrue's were adjunct assistant professors in the College of Nursing Graduate Program at the Medical University of SC. They lectured and conducted sexuality training programs for graduate students in Clinical Counseling/Marriage & Family Therapy at The Citadel in Charleston, SC. Mrs. Sughrue also lectured on sexuality counseling at Trident Technical College Nursing Program in Charleston. The Sughrue's were on the steering committee to design a sexuality elective for 4th year medical students at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA and lectured on the sexual response cycle in that program. They participated nationally in training workshops for medical, nursing and mental health professionals. Mrs. Sughrue was a member of AASECTs Professional Education Committee from 2000-2014. She served as the AASECT SC State Chairperson, Treasurer of the Southeastern District and was an elected member of the national nominating committee. Dr. John Sughrue passed away in February 2008. Mrs. Sughrue continues to offer individual and couple sex/relationship therapy. She offers sexuality training workshops (including SAR workshops) and both individual and group supervision for candidates for AASECT certification.
