About the 50th Annual Conference
This year’s conference theme, Bridging the Divide: Shedding Light on the Taboos and Pleasures of Sexuality, seeks to expand our professional reach and welcome innovative ideas into the field of human sexuality.
Founded in 1967, AASECT is devoted to the promotion of sexual health by the development and advancement of the fields of sexual therapy, counseling and education. AASECT's mission is the advancement of the highest standards of professional practice for educators, counselors and therapists. The AASECT Annual Conference averages 600+ conference attendees from around the world in disciplines such as sexuality education, counseling, therapy, social work, psychology, sociology, nursing, medicine and more. The conference attracts physicians, nurses, social workers, psychologists, allied health professionals, clergy members, lawyers, sociologists, marriage and family counselors and therapists, family planning specialists and researchers, as well as students in various relevant professional disciplines – all sharing an interest in promoting understanding of human sexuality and healthy sexual behavior. The latest clinical techniques, research applications and educational approaches in the field of sexual science are featured each year.
As we approach our 50th Annual Conference, we seek to create space for attendees to gather and exchange ideas that will ultimately shed light on the various taboos of sexuality while also offering best practices for sexuality education, counseling, therapy and research. Conference attendees will be encouraged to move beyond contention, lean into discomfort and strive for understanding and connection.
We look forward to celebrating our 50th Annual Conference with you and we hope to see you in Denver!

Call for Abstract Proposals
The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) invites abstract proposals for presentation at the 50th AASECT Annual Conference (AASECT18) being held in Denver, CO from June 14 – 17, 2018.
As AASECT moves forward as an organization, we remain focused on expanding our professional reach and welcoming innovative ideas into the field of human sexuality. In doing so, we must also create space for sexuality topics and related issues that have traditionally existed within the margins of our profession, society and culture. This includes limited affirmation and inclusion of intersectional identities and behaviors, as well as alternative sexualities and practices. As we learned during our most recent conference, pleasure is often absent from both mainstream and professional discussions of human sexuality; however, now more than ever, there is a need to push this and other taboos into the forefront of dialogue and practice.
The current political climate brings new obstacles, and many individuals are left seeking guidance, comfort and support. These challenges provide opportunities for important conversations within the field. As such, we seek to create space at AASECT's 2018 Annual Conference for attendees to gather and exchange ideas that will ultimately shed light on the various taboos of sexuality, while also offering best practices for sexuality education, counseling, therapy and research. Conference attendees will be encouraged to move beyond contention, lean into discomfort and strive for understanding and connection.
