AASECT is pleased to announce the introduction of a new Certification, Sexuality Counselor Supervisor. Since this is a new certification category, for a limited time of one (1) year, qualified AASECT Certified Sexuality Counselors, with a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in a supervisory role for counselors, will be able to apply for the Sexuality Counselor Supervisor Certification under Temporary Grandparenting Requirements. The Grandparenting requirements state that Certified Sexuality Counselors who hold an approved supervisor status in an allied professional field with a focus on human sexuality or who have at least five (5) years of experience as a provider of counselor supervision and submit a summary of this supervision, as well as appropriate recommendations, are eligible to apply for Certification as a Sexuality Counselor Supervisor under the Grandparenting requirements. The Temporary Grandparenting phase is slated to begin January 1, 2014 and shall run through December 31, 2014, ending exactly one (1) year later. After the Temporary Grandparenting phase, and effective as of January 1, 2015, AASECT Certified Sexuality Counselors who have been AASECT certified for at least three (3) years, have thirty (30) hours of documented supervision with an AASECT Certified Supervisor*, professional recommendations, and a written statement of supervision experience will be eligible to apply for certification as s Sexuality Counselor Supervisor. Additional information will be forthcoming about these standard requirements on AASECT's website at the end of the Temporary Grandparenting phase.
