Mother's Tweets Land Her Son a New Sex Ed Curriculum [1]
This past April, Alice Dreger—a Clinical Professor in the Medical Humanities and Bioethics Program at the Feinberg School of Medicine of Northwestern University in Chicago—attended her son's sex ed class [2] after hearing his accounts of the class and becoming concerned by its lessons on sexual abstinence. She live-tweeted [3] her experience, expressing horror at the misinformation being disseminated. Her tweets soon went viral, bringing a great deal of attention to their school district.
Dreger wondered if she had done the right thing. But friends and colleagues opined that perhaps she was a voice that was sorely needed. So she continued to push for better sexuality education for the school district.
Now, East Lansing, Michigan is getting a new sex ed curriculum [4], after it was found that the existing program violated state law [5]. An important win for evidence-based sex ed!
