Half Of Young Women Don't Understand Their Own Anatomy [1]

Half of young British women don’t understand the basic anatomy of their vaginas, reports the Eve Appeal [2], a women's cancer charity. In an attempt to encourage women to learn more about the risks and symptoms of gynecological cancers, they surveyed 1,000 women on their anatomy, and on the health of said anatomy. Out of those 1,000 women, just half of those aged 26 to 35 could locate the vagina on a medical drawing of the female reproductive system.

In contrast, the majority of older women aged 66 to 75 were able to label their body parts on the diagrams.

In addition, nearly a third of women aged 16 to 35 said they avoided going to the doctor with gynecological issues due to embarrassment, while one in 10 said they found it very had to talk to their gynecologist about these concerns.

The Eve Appeal also gathered statistics on women's knowledge in regard to various gynecological cancers but, even placing those numbers aside, the lack of comfort and familiarity survey respondents showed when it came to their genitalia is telling.
