Two studies conducted recently—one in the U.S. and one in the United Kingdom [2]—suggest that greater numbers of young adults now self-identify along the spectrum of sexual identity, rather than identifying as exclusively gay or exclusively straight.

As part of the former study, 1,000 respondents were asked to identify their sexuality along a modified Kinsey Scale of sexuality, with zero being "completely heterosexual" and six being "completely homosexual." Among Americans between the ages of 18 and 29, 29 percent identified somewhere between zero and six, indicating at least some level of sexual attraction to more than one gender. In terms of the latter study, 43 percent of those between the ages of 18 and 24 showed possible sexual attraction to more than one gender. These results show riding numbers of those who self-identify as sexually fluid.
