Membership Benefits
Membership benefits in AASECT include:
Certification & Professional Standing: AASECT offers certification of sexual health care practitioners in four categories: sexuality educator, sex counselor, sex therapist, and supervisor. Certification in these areas is intended to relate directly to the realities of both the academic community and clinical life.
Annual Conferences and District Events: Each year AASECT sponsors an annual conference. This meeting provides a forum for continuing education, a discussion of sexually related research, noted keynote speakers, opportunities for networking and an exhibits hall. In addition to the annual conference, AASECT periodically offers District workshops and conferences. These events provide valuable opportunities for professional development, continuing education and networking with colleagues. Members receive early notification and discounts on all AASECT conferences and workshops.
Contemporary Sexuality is the monthly voice of the Association. The newsletter contemporary and relevant issues through lead articles, provides a summary of significant contemporary issues, legislation and policy related to the field, and lists AASECT approved and sponsored continuing education workshops
Membership Directory: With periodic updates, the AASECT Membership Directory provides alphabetic and geographic listings of all members of the Association. The Directory also identifies those members who are certified by AASECT as educators, counselors, therapists, and supervisors.
Student Members: AASECT encourages the professional development and training of student members by offering students substantial discounts on membership and conference costs.
Referral Service: AASECT Certified Members are invited to place their names, contact information and details concerning their professional practice on line as part of the AASECT On-Line Referral Service. The AASECT office also responds, at no charge, to inquiries from the public concerning the availability of Certified Sex Therapists and Counselors in their geographic area.
Members Only "ListServ": Communication among the membership of AASECT is facilitated through a moderated "listserv."Advocacy: AASECT actively advocates on issues pertaining to sexual health and sexual rights wherever and whenever the opinion of the professional expertise that we represent might exert a positive influence. AASECT opposes all psychological, social, cultural, legislative, and governmental forces that would restrict, curtail or interfere with the fundamental values of sexual health and sexual freedom that we espouse.
